When I saw the headline, I was shocked.  Or at least put back.  It happened in Belarus.  A man was trying to get a picture of the beaver when it attacked and killed him. According to Sky News:

The man spotted the beaver while fishing with friends at Lake Shestakov, but as he approached to take a photograph, the beaver bit him on the thigh. The animal managed to sever an artery, and his friends couldn't stop the blood flow.

The story comes from half way around the world but here in Sioux Falls it rings with us here at Kickin' Country.  In our backyard we have a wildlife sanctuary.  We have geese, ducks raccoons and yes beavers. In fact as recently as yesterday I spotted animal control out trying to halt some of the dam building going on in a slew that runs through our backyard into the Outdoor Campus.

You know, I was thinking about setting a trail cam up to get a picture of that beaver up close.  After hearing about the beaver incident in Belarus, I think i'll give that a bit more thought!

Sky News helpfully reminds us that beavers can, of course, bite through trees. Beaver attacks are rare, though, and when they do occur, rabid beavers are generally to blame.
