Barker Back On Price Is Right
The Price Is Right is still one of the most popular game shows today. Not only is it the highest-rated game show on television, it’s also the longest running game show in television history. And for 35 years, the popular game show was hosted by Bob Barker, who will turn 90-years old on December 12.
To help celebrate Barker’s milestone birthday, The Price Is Right will be doing a one week long, special Pet Adoption week, leading up to the birthday celebration. Barker has always had a love of animals, and would end The Price Is Right with the famous quote, “Bob Barker reminding you: Help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered.”
Bob Barker stepped down as the host of the game show in 2007, and handed the hosting job to comedian Drew Carey that has helped keep the show as popular as ever.
Executive producer Mike Richards says that Barker has only been back to the game show one time since he handed the title to Carrey, and that was when his book ‘Priceless Memories’ was released. He adds that Barker turning 90-years old is the next perfect reason to bring him back to the game show.
Bob Barker was born in Darrington, Washington, but did spend most of his youth on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, where his mother was a schoolteacher. Barker did attend Drury College in Springfield, Missouri on a basketball scholarship, before he joined the US Navy and became a fighter pilot. World War II ended before he could be assigned. He’s had his own radio show then entered the world of television in 1956.
Barker is also in the Guinness Book of World Records as television’s “Most Durable Performer,” at 3,524 shows, and “Most Generous Host in Television history” for awarding $55 million in prizes on his various game shows.
The special Pet Adoption week started today on The Price Is Right and will continue this week. Help celebrate the return of the legend Bob Barker by watching The Price Is Right at 10am CST on CBS.
