Is This America’s Worst School?

Parents, we’d better be thankful that we don’t have a school in Sioux Falls like “PS 106″ in Queens, New York. Known as the “school of no’s”, the small elementary school is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

According to the New York Post, this brick house of learning has more problems than you can shake a ruler at.

No gym, art, math, or writing book for the students are among the many atrocities. Instead, the 234 kids watch movies everyday.

The library is in shambles and no substitute fills in for an absent teacher. It is also reported that the school nurse has no sink, resting cot, or refrigerator.

Then comes the sickening news that the nearly 40 kindergarteners have no room of their own, and can hear squirrels and rats in the walls and ceilings of the school.

Shocked?

So are the parents. So, where is the principal?

Marcella Sills, who became the school’s principal nine years ago has an attendance problem. She rarely goes to her school before 3:30 pm.When the New York Post began questioning the faculty, the reports were equally shocking, saying that the principal “strolls in whenever she wants” and “is rarely there at all.”

The school does not employ a payroll secretary and Sills is paid an annual salary of $128,207.

She refused to talk to the media Monday. Instead, she walked past them wearing a fur coat, fur boots, and drove off in a BMW.

Ouch. Parents are hoping that this is investigated to the very top of the educational system. So do we. Those kids deserve better.
