Central Florida's loss has proven to be a big gain for a South Dakota native.

Josh Heupel has been selected to fill the Knights' head football coaching position, just two days after UCF coach Scott Frost left to take over at Nebraska.

Heupel, a standout quarterback at Aberdeen Central in the 1990's and later a Heisman Trophy runner-up and 2001 AP Player of the Year at Oklahoma, comes to Orlando after spending the last two seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Missouri.

Prior to Missouri, Heupel assisted at Utah State, Oklahoma, and Arizona.

This will be his first head coaching job.

At Central Florida, he inherits a program that posted the only perfect season (12-0) in FBS in 2017.
