The state of South Dakota is having a picnic on Sunday, February 22nd. But here's the catch, it's 1,779 miles and 27 hours away!

The 63rd Annual South Dakota Picnic will be held indoors on Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Woodbrook Estates Mobile Home Park Recreation Center, located at 1510 Ariana Street, Lakeland, Florida.

The picnic is comprised mostly of former South Dakotans now living down in the Sunshine State. But there's always a few occasional South Dakota residents vacationing for the winter in Florida that will attend.

The South Dakota Picnic attracted 101 people back in 2013, the most people they've had in quite a few years according to organizer, June Clark, a native of Mission Hill South Dakota.

The picnic used to be held in Sarasota and Plant City. Lakeland has been the scene the last few years. The group only has to pay $50 for use of the recreation center, because Woodbrook Estates is home to a South Dakota native, who attends the picnic.

Attendees are asked to please bring a large covered casserole or hot dish, salad, or dessert to share, also plates and silverware for your own family. Coffee, iced tea, and sodas will be furnished.

Wanna attend? RSVP by calling or emailing June Clark, President, (863-646-1131), jjclark01@msn.com, or Sue Kelly, Secretary, (941-792-8235), suehkelly@verizon.net.

And one more thing, make sure you put the potato salad on ice. That's quite a long drive!
