Starting this week the Falls Park Farmers' Market, The Sioux Empire Farmers' Market at 8th & Railroad and Prairie Farmers' Market at Cherapa Place will be getting some new competition in the farmers' market business.

The Good Earth Farm south of Lennox South Dakota plans to start its own farmers' market in downtown Sioux Falls in front of the State Theatre on Phillips Avenue.

The Good Earth Farm is a Community Supported Agriculture, or CVB farm, which means people buy memberships to have their fruits and vegetables delivered to them.

Nancy Kirstein of The Good Earth Farm said they planted about 250 varieties of vegetables this year. Everything from kohlrabi to sweet corn, pumpkins, tomatoes, potatoes, and beans.

You will not need a membership however to buy Good Earth produce at the new downtown farmers' market in Sioux Falls. According to Kirstein, they want to bring the farm to you.

Area residents will get the opportunity to buy fresh produce while checking out all the other things downtown Sioux Falls has to offer like; shopping, the various restaurants and live music. Speaking of live music, some of the Good Earth summer interns actually will be preforming live music at the market which Kirstein says will bring a nice vibe to it.

Another thing that will differentiate the Good Earth downtown farmer's market from other area farmers' markets will be the fact that its held mid-week.

The three other farmers' markets are each open on Saturdays in Sioux Falls through October.

The first Good Earth downtown farmers' market starts this Wednesday, July 22 and will run every Wednesday from 5 PM to 8 PM through early October.
