My sister recently told me she was watching an episode of Brandon McMillan's show Lucky Dog and was taken aback at the name of one of his dogs - Pig. While I agree it is not one of those warm and fuzzy names, it was kind of fitting. His bulldog is a snorting, drooling, chubby, (although adorable) pig, of sorts.

We then moved on to discuss other weird names which people give their pets and believe me, I'm not pointing the finger away from myself. I have a beloved cat which I named Ceci Pea (the Italian version of garbanzo bean). Her name just came to me as I was driving her home from the Humane Society about 12 years ago and that was it.

I also had a dog which I named Baci di Natale (Italian for Christmas Kiss). My younger sister Carolyn and I raised a sparrow we named Waldo Emerson Pepper. He thrived and survived for six years in a household with cats and dogs who didn't care much for him.

We had Nero the Roman of Fau, Rusty, Nikki, Tikki (who got his name because my older sister, as a toddler could not say "kitty"), Spring, (a beautiful, lazy and extremely vocal Siamese cat who we'd dress up in baby clothes and push around in a stroller) and many, many more!

Currently my home is ruled by my two German Shepherds, Bella, (again an Italian word meaning beautiful, which her appearance is and her personality is not) and Zeus (I adopted him with that name and it suits him in appearance only, as he is about as Greek god-like as Sheldon Cooper and just as goofy).

I also have two poor put-upon kitties, the aforementioned Ceci Pea and my other big talker Gabby. They are always so happy when the dogs are out at their "spa" at Precious Pets Country Resort. They come upstairs and have the run of the house, sleep on my bed, the dog's beds, knock stuff off the kitchen counters and the piano, use the couch for a scratching post and leave kitty pawprints on the rest of my permanently dusty furniture.

Yup, I love my pets, weirdly named or not!
