It's 1996. And that song sounds familiar.

We already knew who Brooks and Dunn were. After all, they had already scored some fifteen Top Ten hits, including nine number ones. And this song, this one that sure sounded familiar in 1996, would become their tenth chart-topper.

My Maria.

The song went to number one and stayed there for three weeks in '96. One of five singles the duo released off their terrific Borderline album, it may have taken a minute or two, but then it hit you...My Maria was a pop hit!

True. B.W. Stevenson had a big Top Ten pop hit with the song (which, by the way, he co-wrote) back there in 1973. And now, some twenty-three years later, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn made it their own.

I'm always a little skeptical when something is remade, updated, covered, or whatever you may call it. But Brooks and Dunn not only did this song justice, but they also hit it out of the park. That distinctive Ronnie Dunn vocal is absolutely perfect for the song, and Kix Brooks is great in the video featured above.

My Maria is another great link in a musical career that has landed Brooks and Dunn in the hallowed halls of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
