You've heard the phrase 'The third time's the charm'.

Well, for country music star Pam Tillis, it was the second time that was the charm

It was in the late 1980's that Pam first recorded 'Maybe It Was Memphis'. It wasn't released as a single.

Yet.

Her second version of the now country classic was a cut on her great album Put Yourself In My Place and was released as a single in November of 1991. By the way, the album also included the hits 'Don't Tell Me What To Do', 'Blue Rose Is' and 'One Of Those Things', as well as the title track.

But for me and millions of others, it was 'Maybe It Was Memphis' that had us crankin' up the radio and singing along. And, we still do.

The tune was nominated for the Country Music Association Song of the Year Award in 1992.

To me, one of the marks of a truly great song is when it sounds as fresh and vibrant decades later as it did when you first heard it. That is, in my opinion, one of the reasons 'Maybe It Was Memphis' falls into the 'great' category.

The daughter of Country Music Hall of Famer and legend Mel Tillis, Pam continues to add to her amazing career.
