Recently both my grandfathers passed away within a month of each other.

Great lyrics can offer a safe place for reflection, a hand of hope, and of course bring on some tears.

My grandpa on my moms side had requested Beyond The Sunset be played at his funeral, and I listened to the Hank Williams version of this song while I wrote his eulogy. I also placed it at number three on this list.

We've known so much of happiness, we've had our cup of joy. And memory is one gift of God, that death cannot destroy

-Beyond the Sunset

With my grandpa on my dads side I remember sitting in the cab of a truck listening to Johnny Cash with him when his body was no longer strong enough to walk the fields for our yearly family pheasant hunt. So we just sat in the truck and listened to Johnny. The music did all the talking. Cash filled in all the space that day.

When he eventually had to move into a nursing home I bought him a CD player, and Johnny Cash's greatest hits.

On the drive to his funeral in small town Minnesota, I listened to the number one song on this list Johnny Cash's Help Me.

It struck me how much music can help us heal or at least offer us a connection to other humans who have been were we are.

Here is my list of 8 Great Country Songs that sing to the soul. If your going through a painful space, your not alone, and I wish peace for you and your family.
