Kohl's has to be one of the busiest department stores in the city. Whenever I drive by, the parking lot is always busy. There's no denying that you can get some pretty good deals at Kohl's. I love getting the $10 off a $10 or more purchase coupon. I have yet to spend JUST $10 when I use one. But, I think that's the point.

The business website Kiplinger recently published an article about the secrets to shopping at Kohl's. They provide some great advice.

    Give Them Your E-mail Address

Kohl's e-mails lots of coupons. Sign up for the Yes2You Rewards. You earn one point for every dollar you spend and get a $5 reward for every 100 points. You also get special discount offers throughout the year including a special coupon on your birthday.

    Take Advantage of Kohl's Cash

If you have some serious shopping to do, Kohl's Cash is a huge incentive. One example of Kohl's Cash is getting $10 worth of Kohl's Cash for every $50 you spend. You then spend the cash during a later specified time frame.

    There's an App for That

Get the Kohl's app. You can store your Kohl's cash and coupons on the app. Plus, when you download the app in the store, you can earn 10 free Yes2You rewards points. You can also use the bar-code scanner in the app to check the price of any Kohl's item while you're shopping.

While shopping at Kohl's, connect to the free wi-fi. Sometimes Kohl's will send a coupon your way if you're connected.

    Utilize the Kohl's In-Store Kiosk

The kiosk is usually near the Customer Service Center. If you find an item, but it's not in your size or the item is out of stock, you can check the kiosk. You can search Kohl's inventory and order it, plus get free standard shipping.

    Stack Coupons

Kohl’s accepts multiple coupons for most purchases. Heather Schisler, founder of PassionForSavings.com says Kohl's coupon policy allows you to stack a dollar-off coupon (a $10 off $30 purchase coupon) with a percent-savings coupon (save 20% on your entire purchase). By using one of each type of coupon you can get double the savings.

Kohl's even accepts coupons on clearance items.

Some coupons can't be used on all items. Make sure you look at the exceptions.

    Learn the Codes

The electronic price tags on the shelves display codes. Knowing these codes that appear in the upper-left corner of the readout could save you some cash.

BB stands for Bonus Buy meaning Kohl's bought a lot of these from a manufacturer at a really low price

BGH stands for Buy One, Get One Half Off

PP is Product Placement, meaning the sale price is fixed by the manufacturer or Kohl's and not discounted

S stands for Sale, meaning that item will be on sale for up to two weeks.

If there is a square in the upper-right corner of the electronic tag, that means the product is at its lowest price until the item goes on clearance.

    When to Shop?

On Wednesdays, customers 55 and older get a 15% discount in-store. Plus, you can stack that discount with other coupons.

A couple of times a month, early birds and night owls can benefit while shopping at Kohl's. On some Saturdays from opening until 1:00 PM and on select Fridays from 3:00 PM to closing time, you can cash in on some great deals. Check newspaper inserts and kohls.com for more info.
