Carl Edwards Breaks Long Losing Streak At Phoenix [VIDEO]

It had been almost two years since the last patented acrobatic flip following a Carl Edwards win in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  Seventy races between wins were hard enough without wrecking 5 cars during speedweeks at Daytona.  However, Edwards won the race off pit road with 75 laps left and had enough fuel to endure a little overtime to hold off Jimmie Johnson to win the Subway Fresh Fit 500.

Johnson had to earn his second place finish due to a hard charging Denny Hamlin who almost stole the penultimate spot but settled for third.  Brad Keselowski ran out of gas at the start/finish line for fourth and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. took fifth.

Mark Martin the pole sitter led the most laps, especially early in the race.  Unfortunately the veteran driver was unable to get a good handle on the car for the last half of the race and took 21st.  The Danica Patrick watch took a wicked turn with a blown right front tire that led to contact with the outside wall then an unsuspecting David Ragan plowed into the driver’s side of her machine to finish her day.  Patrick finished in 39th place.  She has never been fond of Phoenix International Raceway and was not expected to contend.  She was running in the 20’s for much of the day prior to the accident.  The series will stay out west for a trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway next Sunday.
