$6.5 Million in Bonds Issued for Corn Palace Renovation

MITCHELL - The city of Mitchell has issued $6.5 million in bonds to remodel the Corn Palace.

Corn Palace Director Mark Schilling tells The Daily Republic that the $6.5 million will provide for improved lighting, heating and cooling; improved domes, murals and minarets; and a permanent gift shop. It will also allow for an upgraded lobby; an elevator to carry people to the second level; and additional and improved handicapped seating.

The improved Corn Palace would also have two major exhibits and a new auxiliary gymnasium.

The renovation is one of four projects the city has issued bonds for. The total cost of the projects is $13. 9 million. The other projects include adding a layer of ice to the ice area, expanding the library and building a new city hall.
