It’s not done yet, but the construction at 57th and Western in Sioux Falls will soon bear incredible fruit.  Congestion will be eased compared to most of the summer with the opening of more lanes this past weekend.

Up until last week, only one lane was available in every direction with limited ability to turn left or right.  The intersection now flows much like it did before the constructed started. The mild difference would be only one lane traffic on Western Avenue south of 57th Street.  There still is some touch up work, but all the pavement is in place.

When fully complete, the traffic will have much more room to operate.  Two left turn lanes in all directions and separate right turn lanes will improve flow measurably.  This intersection will become noticeably busier over the next 5 to 10 years with more development to the south drawing increased traffic.
