3,000 students from the Sioux Falls Public and Catholic School Systems are getting the opportunity of a lifetime this December. They’re joining the Electrify Your Symphony Victory Tour for a rock orchestra performance at the Denny Sanford Premier Center on Dec. 17, 2016.

The tour has already been named the largest rock symphony concert in the city’s history. It includes Mark Wood, a world-famous rock orchestra violinist and one of the original members of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

The Electrify Your Strings program has been incorporating rock into schools for 17 years. Wood pioneered the organization himself and runs it as a family business, working with his wife and operating out of his own home in New York.

EYS is aimed at bringing an intense, high-energy serving of rock and roll into school music education programs. It begins with a three day session, with Wood and his rock orchestra working with middle schoolers from Dec. 14-17.

The kids will learn performance tips, music improv and choreography from the group, and will demonstrate their newfound knowledge at the show on Dec. 17.

Not only do the students learn from the best, but the organization also donates profits from ticket sales directly to the school’s music program.

Wood, an Emmy-winning composer, has performed with some of the top names in the music industry. His resume includes joining the stage with: Kanye West, Kenny Kravitz, Billy Joel and Paul McCartney. He has six solo albums and regularly tours with big time artists or with his band, The Mark Wood Experience, which includes his wife and 18-year-old son.

Tickets are just $20, and will be available to the general public beginning at 10 a.m. on November 7. Visit www.ticketmaster.com or call 800-745-3000.
