An escape charge will be filed against a Minnehaha County Corrections Center inmate after what sheriff's deputies say was a 15-minute escape attempt on Tuesday.

Jail Warden Jeff Gromer says 42-year-old Ryan Eldon Quartier escaped from the Corrections Center on West Russell Street by breaking a window.

But a Center employee who was outside the building saw Quartier walking away, reported the escape and followed the inmate as he fled to the south and east.

A passerby who saw Quartier near the Sheraton Hotel reported a suspicious person and Quartier was taken into custody by Sheriff's deputies and Sioux Falls Police after his 15-minute escape.

Quartier was being held on second-degree burglary and grand theft charges out of Lincoln County, and Gromer says he will also be charged with escape.
