More than just basketball is offered with the Sioux Falls Skyforce at the Sanford Pentagon.  The Friday night game marks the 10th year of honoring and recognizing those who have served in the Armed Services with Military Night.  All available tickets have been sold for this game.  Special accommodations will be made for members of the military and their families.

President/Owner of the Sioux Falls Skyforce Mike Heineman says this is a way that the organization can give back.  “It’s a special night for us.  We invite military members to come out to the game for free.  It’s anybody who is retired, reserve, active, and any family members who may have soldiers overseas.  It’s just our way of giving back a little bit for all the stuff they’ve done for us.”  Heineman also says no identification will be required for admittance.  “We’ll take their word for it.”

Skyforce players will wear camouflage jerseys which can be won via sealed bid auction. Bidding for the jerseys will begin when the doors open at 6 p.m. and close at the end of the third quarter. Winners of the jerseys will be announced throughout the fourth quarter and all of the proceeds from the auction will benefit Operation Cares.

In March of 2003, the Sioux Falls Skyforce created a charity to benefit family members of soldiers who were sent overseas for service. Operation Cares was launched with the help of over 20 Sioux Falls businesses. This effort has been very successful as it has raised over $150,000. All proceeds have gone to help military families with everyday needs such as car repairs, groceries and home repairs.

Along with the auction, the Skyforce will also host an enlistment ceremony at halftime. Over 100 young men and women who have signed up for the Air Force, Army and Marines will take part in a ceremony that will enlist them into one of the aforementioned organizations.

The opponent for tonight’s game are the Delaware 87ers, an expansion franchise that is owned and operated by the Philadelphia 76ers.  In their first season, the Sevens have a 3-18 record dropping their last 8 games as they become acclimated to the NBADL.  Sioux Falls is 12-7 putting them third best in the league.  The Skyforce snapped a 4-game losing streak at Tulsa last Saturday night.
